Laugh {love} Create/ Us Happy Together Forever. A set of embossed home stretched Canvases with Tutorial

Happy Tuesday Friends!

I am over the moon because today begins my term as part of the Craftwell Blog's DT. It is a true honor to be among a very talented group of ladies!

Here is what I created

Creative supplies:

Teresa Collins : Beautiful Words Embossing Folder
Unfinished wood frame ( mine is from Michaels)
Unbleached Muslin ( about 4 “ larger than your fame so you can wrap it around the edges) (Got mine at Joann’s but pretty much any fabric store carries it)
Liquid starch, Iron and Ironing board
Black Gesso
Faber- Castle White Gelato
Black acrylic paint ( for first canvas only)
Chalk Fixative
Clear Finish ( Krylon Matte Clear Finish)
Foam brush and small brush for detailing
Heavy Duty Stapler and Staples
Black card stock to close back of frame when finished
Scissors, ruler and pencil
Masking or painters tape
eBosser

Craft Level: Intermediate
Time: 3-4 hrs due to drying time
eBosser plate combo: ACD + Standard Embossing Folder

Now for the tutorial: Be warned this gets messy but it is fun! :)

First iron your muslin using your starch. Place your fabric on your embossing folder, I folded the excess underneath my fabric. Secure with painters tape to avoid any shifting every time you open the folder to allow the "print' to dry. Apply a thin coat of gesso. NOTE: Be careful not to apply in excess or you will have the gesso spilling on the sides - ask me how I know *wink*- Repeat the process until you are satisfied with the color of your "print" in these examples, I applied 4 coats to the second plaque and 6 to the first one, plus a coat of black paint , you can see how there are two different looks with the same technique.

I used gesso so the "print" would hold better  and would look crispier. In between coats you must allow for it to dry, since I am kind of impatient I used my hair drier on COLD to speed up the drying time.

Then carefully remove your fabric from your folder and wrap it around the frame. Secure it using heavy duty staples. And apply gesso if you have any expossed areas let dry, cut excess fabric. Please note that if you only use the gesso your "print" will look kind of dull at this point.

Once dry use Faber-Casttle's  White Gelato (you can probably use a PIT pen or acrylic paint too) to highlight the words for your message. The gelatto has no drying time so you can apply your fixative once you are satisfied with the look achieved.

Apply the clear finish - follow manufacturer's instructions- When dried staple a piece of coordinating card stock on the back of your frame for a polished look.

NOTE:  I let it soak for a while on soapy water. Then using a tooth brush I scrubbed and rinse it. Let dry.

I hope while visiting you find some inspiration and come back to visit again. Thank you for stopping by, have a wonderful and crafty day!
